Referring to a review by Gustave Erlanger, "éxécuteur musical" at the Frankfurter Zeitung and an unappreciated and disgruntled composer, of Bülow's recent performance of Berlioz's Roi Lear overture in which he called Berlioz an "écolier mal elevé," complaining that Erlanger earlier dismissed Berlioz's Requiem in three lines, and asking the recipient to print Bülow's letter in the Gazette de Lausanne as soon as possible.
